Free Public Domain Google Books...
For Your Kindle!

And now for Stanza on the iPhone/iPad!

New: edit out extraneous front matter

RetroRead is a FREE publishing service that allows you to automatically convert any of the hundreds of thousands of free public domain books available in EPUB format at books.google.com, and have them sent either directly to your Kindle, or emailed to your regular email address, in the native MOBI format that your Kindle understands.

RetroRead is also a community-created library of all of the books others have converted, and which you can download for free. Find converted titles by searching the RetroRead library using Google Book Search. Registration is not required.

Start searching now or by downloading one of the most recently converted ebooks, either to your desktop or using your Kindle's browser. (www.retroread.com is 'Kindle Browser Friendly'.) MOBI format files downloaded by the Kindle are automatically placed on your Kindle Home screen.

All you need to do to convert additional titles that you select yourself is to register here at RetroRead.

  • Then search books.google.com for any of the classic public domain titles that interest you -- generally, works published before 1923 (More about this.)
  • Download the epub from Google to your computer, upload the file to RetroRead, and in approximately five minutes, the ebook will appear in your inbox as a download link or attachment, or on your Kindle if you have configured direct delivery (More).
  • The converted book will also be added to the ever-expanding library of converted ebooks, where you and anyone else may download it directly to their Kindle through the Kindle browser.

There are three ways you can have a converted ebook delivered:

  • To the RetroRead online library, where you may download it to your desktop or directly to your Kindle
  • To your personal email address, where you may transfer it to your Kindle or read with your desktop client
  • Directly to your Kindle, where it will appear as soon as it has been translated

The RetroRead service is free, (sponsored by BLTC Press).

Note that if you send converted ebooks directly to your Kindle, Amazon will charge your account fifteen cents per megabyte transferred (Typically, epubs are between 1-2 MB, although this will vary depending on content.)

Choose whichever delivery option suits you best.
